Unbreakable Athletics hosted Magnus’ Mayhem, a Level I Strongman Corporation show, on May 5 in Plainfield, Indiana. We have hosted a number of different shows over the last three years, but this was the first one that was sanctioned at our place and only the second NAS sanctioned event in Indiana. The show ran simultaneously with our first Highlander show which combined Scottish Highland Games events with typical Strongman events.

The show was a great success on many levels. We had about 40 athletes, and almost half were first-time competitors in Strongman. One of our main goals is to grow the sport of Strongman, and hosting a Level I show helps us do that. Naturally there were tremendous efforts put forth by the athletes and personal records were set at most of the individual events. In addition there were three National Bids awarded to Arien Clevenger, Lightweight Female from Kentucky. Joshua Swisher, Male Middleweight from Michigan. And Dan Mason, Male Heavyweight from our home gym here in Indiana. Luckily there were no injuries and everything ran smoothly ending around 2:00PM that day. Event the weather that day was perfect. We wouldn’t have changed a thing.

For most the highlight was the Power Stairs event. We wanted to put an event in the show that isn’t typically seen in a lot of Strongman shows, and I think everyone really enjoyed it. Each step was 14″ and there were 4 steps. Each athlete had to move three duck walks up the stairs, and each duck walk was progressively heavier. It was fast and heavy and most really loved it. In total athletes traveled from six different states for the show and I think we will have more next year. It is our goal to grow Strongman in Indiana and our facility has the most equipment for it anywhere in the state. Next year’s show should be event better.
