The contest was a great success, but we had a big curveball thrown at us with a massive storm and downpour on Saturday.
For safety reasons with lightning especially, we moved the competition inside after half of the competitive classes did the Conan’s Wheel.
The Men’s Masters, Middleweights, and heavyweights all did Husafell for Max distance in place of the Conan’s Wheel. This call was made after deliberating the best substitute event and conferring with the athletes. There were no problems with this change.
As per instructed, I did not combine the women’s divisions. We had a lone lightweight strongwoman (Deeandra Flores), who did exceptionally well and is definitely ready to take a shot at Nationals.
I combined the Men’s <175 and <200 Divisions into a single Men's LW division. There was only one athlete in the <200's (Robert "RJ" Ortiz) and 4 in the <175's. Robert still wound up in 3rd under two of the <175 athletes (Tony Michnavich and Tom Piccinni)
We had 1 Teen Strongman, Ruben Treviño. He weighed in <175 and wanted to compete with the adults. Although his points were not added to the mix of the other LWs (even if they were they would not have changed the standings), he still did the adult weights and performed quite impressively. This kid is more than ready to make some waves and I hope he gets a Teen Nationals invite.
